nightgroove: do you agree with the sortname of these lads? http://musicbrainz.org/artist/1ab67c63-535b-4f92-869b-a42d54c5e91d.html
13:07:25 [lilltiger]
Does anyone know when musicbrainz v3 is sheduled for release?
13:07:55 [nightgroove]
canidae: don't see anything directly *wrong* about it, no
13:09:01 [nightgroove]
lilltiger: musicbrainz version 3?
13:09:16 [nightgroove]
do you mean libmusicbrainz or something?
13:09:21 [nightgroove]
or picard?
13:09:25 [canidae]
nightgroove: afaik "ralph myerz" is a fictional name, like "bob hund" or "pink floyd"
13:09:30 [lilltiger]
libmusicbrainz
13:10:42 [nightgroove]
canidae: my stance on that is if you can see that its a fictional name byt he first glance of it, just sort it as you normally woulkd, ie i'd recon bob hund would be a fictional one
13:11:01 [nightgroove]
I don't even see pink floyd as a name, more as a two word title?
13:11:10 [nightgroove]
you see it as a (ficitonal) name?
13:11:49 [nightgroove]
also fictional name names on people and groups with fictional person anmes are slightly different
13:11:53 [nightgroove]
take uriah heep
13:12:10 [nightgroove]
noonw would consider sortingthat heep, uriah
13:12:29 [canidae]
nightgroove: well, i wouldn't consider sorting ralph myerz under myerz, ralph
13:12:42 [canidae]
s/under/as/
13:12:48 [nightgroove]
well if you know it more than I do (as you do) i'd take it up with people moddign it
13:13:02 [nightgroove]
if it 'feels' wrong then change it
13:13:20 [nightgroove]
sorting is for machines & people
13:13:25 [nightgroove]
not for what is 'right'
13:13:41 [nightgroove]
if it makes stupid sense to be sorted that way, then it should be sorted diferntly
13:13:47 [nightgroove]
well that's my take on it
13:14:02 [nightgroove]
although i'd sort things like 'jimmi hendrix experience' under H
13:14:11 [nightgroove]
so its looped together with the man
13:14:16 [mudcrow]
so would i
13:14:22 [lilltiger]
nightgroove: Do you have any idéa about when libmusixbrainz will be relesed?
13:14:35 [nightgroove]
I have noidea aboutthat part of mb, sorry
13:14:38 [nightgroove]

lilltiger, there were practically no changes from the beta release
13:16:53 [nightgroove]
hi luks
13:16:55 [luks]
hi
13:17:59 [lilltiger]
luks: so I can assume that the beta API is stable and that it's a good idé to use the beta when writing a program?
13:18:06 [luks]
yes
13:18:06 [canidae]
well, "myerz, ralph" just sounds wrong... it's a bandname, not a name of a person. speaking of which, would it make more sense to change "jack herren band, the" to "the jack herren band" if i change it from "myerz, ralph" to "ralph myerz"?
13:18:23 [luks]
lilltiger, i can release it as 3.0.0 today, if you want
13:19:30 [nightgroove]
canidae: I wouldn't know, but if you do *that* there is a big chance someone will see it in the forbifarten and then driveby-fix moderatoe it
13:19:42 [nightgroove]
i'd probably do it myself if i saw it, without thinking
13:19:52 [Amblin]
Amblin has joined #musicbrainz
13:20:26 [lilltiger]
luks: no need, wont be finished for a few weeks anyway =D have to learn the api and stuff first. So to me it wont do any difference.. Just dident want to develope for the bete if it was like a year away
13:21:12 [luks]
ok
13:21:16 [luks]
if you notice something in the API that could be done better, just let me know
13:21:52 [lilltiger]
ok :D
13:22:00 [canidae]
i dunno, i can't relate it to another example. imho it would be better with "ralph myerz and the jack herren band" than "myerz, ralph and jack herren band, then" or "ralph myerz and jack herren band, the"
13:22:33 [canidae]
last one is like... confusing...

hrm
16:53:56 [canidae]
maybe i'll have to sign up that list afterall, then
16:54:56 [canidae]
somehow i get a "BooleanQuery$TooManyClauses: maxClauseCount is set to 1024" exception from a range search, [400 TO 420]
16:55:21 [canidae]
although, i simply can't put my mind to how the range [400 TO 420] possibly can exceed 1024 clauses
16:56:12 [canidae]
funny enough, if i just do a "xrange(400, 420)" and rather add each manually it works
16:56:18 [canidae]
but, that's not perticulary nice
16:56:43 [canidae]
particulary, actually
17:04:08 [praest76_]

hmm. guess it could be that lucene consider everything as "text", thus "4001" would be in the range [400 TO 420]

good evenin'
20:57:24 [Prodoc]
BlueDream raised an interesting problem today: http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=5876856
20:58:14 [Prodoc]
I've been adding some record label promo's and they got a very detailed list of info for each track (producer, engineer, mixer, composer, etc.)
20:59:08 [Prodoc]
We're dealing with promo's containing songs of multiple artists
20:59:22 [Prodoc]
e.g. http://musicbrainz.org/album/1a3f62b0-1ed5-4de7-b1b8-2ac82b2f3f7c.html
20:59:58 [Prodoc]
but we currently have no AR to link each track to the artist release it appear on
21:00:20 [Prodoc]
The only AR that comes close is the 'is the earliest version of' relation but according to it's definition: '...This is the case when the same artist made a different recording of the same song...', which isn't the case here. The songs are identical, they are of the same recording
21:00:34 [rpedro]
rpedro has quit
21:01:27 [Prodoc]
Because of this I've been adding the AR's to all track on the promo releases instead of the artist release they appear on
21:03:17 [Prodoc]
In addition to this I also did it because I don't have all the artist releases so I can't cross-reference that the info on the promo's is actually identical to the tracks on the artist release
21:04:12 [Prodoc]
This behaviour, however, creates a lot of duplicate ARs
21:04:47 [Prodoc]
Especially when the same info is added again to the artist release tracks
21:05:25 [Prodoc]
Has the lacking AR issue been addressed before?
21:05:44 [warp]
Prodoc: there don't seem to be that many ppl around right now, and I have no answer to your question.
21:06:19 [warp]
Prodoc: elaborate stuff like this should probably be posted on the forum, or to the appropriate musicbrainz mailinglist.
21:07:02 [Prodoc]
true, I just wanted to read up first in case it was addressed before on the mailinglist
21:07:38 [Prodoc]

22:03:15 [luks]
but i'm not sure if i can help much with mod_python
22:03:31 [canidae]
well, maybe you can make more out of the errors than me
22:03:49 [FauxFaux]
canidae: I guess the library path is set in httpd.conf, instead of taking the env. var?
22:03:50 [luks]
indexmp is your module?
22:04:02 [luks]
ah, no
22:04:05 [luks]
it's in apache.py
22:04:22 [luks]
ehm
22:04:51 [canidae]
FauxFaux: using apache2, iirc i shouldn't have to mess with httpd.conf anymore, but rather play with the files in sites-available
22:05:02 [FauxFaux]
Ah, debian, but yeah, same idea. :)
22:05:06 [luks]
canidae, use PythonPath "sys.path+['/path/to/indexmp']" in your apache config
22:05:25 [luks]
(or put it somewhere where python can find it)
22:05:48 [canidae]
hmmz, the documentation claims apache should be able to tell that from the config file for the virtual host
22:05:58 [luks]
how?
22:06:00 [canidae]
eg. DocumentRoot=path
22:06:34 [canidae]
in this case: DocumentRoot=/export/mb while indexmp.py resides in that directory
22:06:35 [luks]
the documentation says it uses documentroot as a path to python libs?
22:06:39 [FauxFaux]
Does that assume you have "./libraries" (or whtever) in your path?
22:06:53 [canidae]
http://www.ics.uci.edu/~sources/apache/mod_python/inst-testing.html
22:07:33 [canidae]
meh, it's slightly disturbing di.fm chillout decided to play some norwegian lullaby right now :s
22:07:54 [luks]
where exactly does it talk about DocumentRoot? :)
22:08:19 [canidae]
it doesn't, that use Directory
22:08:41 [canidae]
tried that earlier, didn't work and afaik DocumentRoot should do the same thing
22:09:02 [canidae]
eg. add /export/mb to the path
22:09:23 [canidae]
can't tell for sure, i usually use php/perl for this (and that just works! :p)
22:10:15 [luks]
where is the indexmp.py file?
22:10:24 [luks]
/export/mb/indexmp.py?
22:10:44 [canidae]
yes
22:10:45 [luks]
and DocumentRoot is /export/mb?
22:10:48 [canidae]
yes
22:11:14 [canidae]
even tried setting "PythonHandler /export/mb/indexmp", but it didn't make it any happier
22:11:33 [luks]
that can't work
22:11:42 [luks]
PythonHandler should be a module name
22:11:58 [canidae]
yeah, i figured that after a while
22:14:21 [luks]
have tried to set the PythonPath?
22:14:55 [luks]
PythonPath "sys.path+['/export/mb']"
22:17:24 [canidae]
uhm... where?
