- 03:02:28 [ajh]
- anyone here printing directly onto cdr's with an inkjet?
- 03:04:43 [BrianFreud]
- I was, til my Epson broke
- 03:04:54 [ajh]
- how well does it work?
- 03:05:24 [BrianFreud]
- Works very well - even with the generic inks. Just don't ever get the discs wet, or store them in any heavy humidity
- 03:05:41 [ajh]
- ah, so going with a UV printer would be better.
- 03:05:41 [BrianFreud]
- the ink will run and or the disc will get very sticky
- 03:05:47 [BrianFreud]
- UV printer?
- 03:06:01 [ajh]
- yeah, it uses UV to cure the dye vs evap.
- 03:06:10 [BrianFreud]
- haven't seen one of those
- 03:06:14 [ajh]
- archival ink should also be waterproof.
- 03:06:26 [BrianFreud]
- Epson inks are waterproof
- 03:06:27 [ajh]
- but the resolution is good and they don't wear off?
- 03:06:39 [ajh]
- why would the ink run then?
- 03:06:41 [BrianFreud]
- but the ink doesn't stick to the CD media well enough to not become runny
- 03:06:58 [BrianFreud]
- it's the coating on the media that makes it run, not the ink itself
- 03:07:07 [ajh]
- yeah, so you want a paintjet then...
- 03:07:11 [BrianFreud]
- At work, we used to have a photo from the same Epson model I have
- 03:07:14 [ajh]
- ok, thanks.
- 03:07:36 [BrianFreud]
- We stored in a bottle of water for 2 years. Ink never ran - eventually the photo paper disintegrated though .:P
- 03:07:57 [ajh]
- interesting, so a different media might fix it.
- 03:08:00 [BrianFreud]
- maybe
- 03:08:16 [BrianFreud]
- most people seem to get around the problem by using clear coat sprays on Epson and Cannon printed CDs
- 03:08:24 [ajh]
- Just going to centrally archive original cd's for family and want a way to print cd's to give back.
- 03:08:44 [BrianFreud]
- do you care about color?
- 03:08:45 [ajh]
- suppose I could do that. I need to price it vs lightscribe.
- 03:08:52 [BrianFreud]
- that's what I was thinking...
- 03:09:03 [ajh]
- the one problem is lightscribe takes awhile.
- 03:09:09 [BrianFreud]
- lightscribe is slightly more expensive - even wholesale
- 03:09:19 [ajh]
- and while you're doing it you tie up the drive.
- 03:09:23 [BrianFreud]
- yup
- 03:09:39 [BrianFreud]
- no ink issues with LS though
- 03:09:50 [ajh]
- know how long doing a disk takes? I mostly just want artist, album and track info, nothing fancy
- 03:10:21 [BrianFreud]
- printing? maybe 30 seconds. Lightscribe, last I checked, 35-45 minutes per disk
- 03:10:32 [ajh]
- yeah, that's a major diff.
- 03:10:42 [BrianFreud]
- Ink dries in about 5 min, but best to let them sit overnight to cure
- 03:11:28 [ajh]
- ok, thanks that's helpful... I should see about renting one from best buy to see.
- 03:11:39 [ajh]
- wonder if I can get them all done and printed in 30 days :)
- 03:12:22 [BrianFreud]
- ink printer?
- 03:12:27 [ajh]
- yeah
- 03:12:54 [BrianFreud]
- just buy one - they're cheaper. Epson R3xx series does the job - mine lasted around 1200 cd/dvds, plus general photo printing
- 03:12:56 [ajh]
- I've got my garage walls covered in pegboard for climbing gear, I could rig it up with hooks for drying :)
- 03:12:57 [BrianFreud]
- run $100-$150 us
- 03:13:09 [BrianFreud]
- you in the us or elsewhere?
- 03:13:36 [ajh]
- Canada. I already have an HP3030 and CLJ3600 though... also some 930C and 932C/
- 03:13:43 [BrianFreud]
- The Cannon gets a lot better ratings, esp for CD/DVD printing, but they only sell CD/DVD printing models in Europe
- 03:13:52 [BrianFreud]
- We in NA get stuck having to go with the Epson models
- 03:13:59 [ajh]
- Hmm, this Imation media has a lifetime warranty.
- 03:14:29 [ajh]
- Having one brought over is pretty easy... got a conference in 2 months with lots of folks coming from there.
- 03:14:37 [BrianFreud]
- hmmm, 1 sec, let me find the contact for the guy I normally bought from - good media choices, and cheap :) (cheaper than I could get in wholesale, actually)
- 03:15:31 [ajh]
- thanks, gotta run but if you msg the info I'd appreciate it.
- 03:15:46 [BrianFreud]
- Just got an email from him, actually... http://www.genesysdtp.com/specials.htm

- 04:40:12 [ajh]
- Looks like what I need is a thermal transfer printer.
- 04:41:48 [BrianFreud]
- Do they make one that does CDs now?
- 04:42:11 [ajh]
- A fair number, I only need black and white so lots from about $75 up.
- 04:42:21 [ajh]
- Just started looking at them though.
- 04:42:49 [BrianFreud]
- as I recall, the "ink" on the thermals was rather pricy... is that really better vs LS, if you're sticking to b&w?
- 04:43:11 [ajh]
- 30 minutes vs 1 is a big deal.
- 04:43:26 [BrianFreud]
- true
- 04:43:29 [ajh]
- I'll do more research over the next week and decide on something.
- 04:43:35 [BrianFreud]
- :)
- 04:43:59 [ajh]
- There's one that claims a $20 ribbon will do 50-200 cd's
- 04:44:02 [BrianFreud]
- Ok, next time I decide to take an artist to 100% on something,
- 04:44:24 [BrianFreud]
- I'm choosing a random one hit wonder, not some bad who did a gazillion performances and has a million bootlegs
- 04:44:26 [BrianFreud]
- lol
- 04:45:07 [ajh]
- Dell sells the Teac P11 which seems popular.
- 04:45:27 [BrianFreud]
- is it Dell, or Teac? (for ink availability)
- 04:45:37 [ajh]
- no clue.
- 04:45:55 [BrianFreud]
- like the Phasors, which were always really popular, but the thermal replacements were pricy and hard to find
- 04:47:22 [BrianFreud]
- I tended to specialize in, among a few lines, printers. Best advice I can give is, figure out your monthly use, short and long term, figure out the costs for the supplies for your intended uses, then go from there. :)
- 04:50:13 [BrianFreud]
- Some of the printers will kill you financially, in the long run (they're designed that way...) :)

- acid2, looks fine to me
- 13:20:37 [ojnkpjg]
- couple of small things, though:
- 13:20:50 [ojnkpjg]
- on the production server, the relatable icon is gone from the partners portal
- 13:21:01 [ojnkpjg]
- and there's a big google one under metabrainz
- 13:21:34 [ojnkpjg]
- i think you also need to throw a ^TM after "powered by Google"
- 13:29:17 [aCiD2]
- ojnkpjg: Ya, that google one is cause it's only in the production server, not the RELEASE i branched off
- 13:29:22 [aCiD2]
- We'll have to merge that I think
- 13:29:33 [aCiD2]
- I'll chuck that TM in though
- 13:43:18 [Muz]
- aCiD2, does that log in box need to be so long?
- 13:43:34 [aCiD2]
- Muz: I'm working on that at the moment
- 13:43:37 [aCiD2]
- That's a bug :)
- 13:43:39 [Muz]
- Goood good
- 13:45:24 [ajh]
- BrianFreud, ever do scanning of the CD surface for printing back on?
- 13:47:50 [Shepard]
- aCiD2: I think on the left side the fieldsets could replace the orange boxes. otherwise the cascaded boxes for Tag Lookup look confusing
- 13:48:06 [aCiD2]
- I thought so too Shepard
- 13:48:12 [aCiD2]
- I'll do that :)
- 13:48:16 [Shepard]
- :)
- 13:52:26 [aCiD2]
- There we go
- 13:54:54 [Shepard]
- nice! and shouldn't "Advanced" be in a <legend> rather than a <label>? and why's there another fieldset inside of it?
- 13:55:49 [aCiD2]
- Yea :P Bug again :D
- 13:55:52 [aCiD2]
- * aCiD2 is nearly done
- 13:56:32 [aCiD2]
- I'm tempted to make fieldsets look like the normal orange boxes... but can't decide
- 13:56:47 [aCiD2]
- Anyway, all bugs fixed now
- 13:57:23 [Shepard]
- is that actually possible?
- 13:57:25 [Shepard]
- nice work
- 13:57:54 [aCiD2]
- Sure is
- 13:58:04 [aCiD2]
- I just wonder if it would be more confusing to users
- 13:58:33 [aCiD2]
- But at the moment the 2 styles clash, imo
- 13:59:15 [Shepard]
- html validator shows 4 errors :P
- 13:59:30 [aCiD2]
- * aCiD2 is on the case!
- 14:03:13 [Shepard]
- you added a lot of layout-whitespace, I like that
- 14:03:32 [aCiD2]
- Yea, I like whitespace, but I tried not to add -too- much
- 14:03:36 [aCiD2]
- Glad to see I've got it right :)
- 14:03:47 [aCiD2]
- It should scale with text well too Shepard
- 14:04:54 [aCiD2]
- Ok, it's valid now - shall I try making it [the fieldsets] the same as the orange boxes?
- 14:05:48 [aCiD2]
- The only thing that'll screw up is the Advanced section though
- 14:05:58 [Shepard]
- well you can use a separate class for that
- 14:06:43 [aCiD2]
- No, you shouldn't really have a fieldset in a fieldset
- 14:07:35 [Shepard]
- hm? where would there be a fieldset in a fieldset then?
- 14:08:02 [Shepard]
- afk
- 14:08:03 [aCiD2]
- Well, the whole login bit would have been a fieldset, with the advanced section inside it
- 14:08:05 [aCiD2]
- ok
- 14:08:20 [aCiD2]
- I'll tidy up a few more things, commit this code, and then decide what to do :)

- 17:44:32 [ajh]
- I wouldn't, Dacks have a big Giardia issue.
- 17:45:00 [BrianFreud]
- well that was the nice thing with Lake George - used to take a few canoes and camp on the islands in the middle of the lake
- 17:45:13 [BrianFreud]
- water was giardia free, didn't need treatment
- 17:45:33 [BrianG]
- i personally wouldn't drink out of any lake
- 17:45:53 [BrianFreud]
- lol, you get used to it

- 17:46:11 [BrianFreud]
- when you do like a 14 day hiking trip through the white mountains, water anywhere becomes important
- 17:46:29 [ajh]
- Mountain streams aren't the same as lakes.
- 17:46:31 [BrianFreud]
- nah, purification tablets and a purifyer pump
- 17:46:46 [ajh]
- You can only use tablets so much, and pumps are mostly good.
- 17:46:46 [BrianFreud]
- mountain lakes, more commonly
- 17:46:58 [BrianG]
- i have no probalems with that stuff, but i wouldn't drink water directly out of a lake
- 17:47:14 [ajh]
- Oxidation purification is best but not in the winter. We end up having to boil everything and melt from ice.
- 17:47:23 [BrianFreud]
- that was always why I liked Lake George though - it was so clean, you didn't have to deal with the tablets taste
- 17:47:34 [BrianFreud]
- just pull it, boil it, drink it

- 17:50:06 [BrianFreud]
- yeah, never though about it
- 17:50:09 [ajh]

- Some idiot put all the big mountains in 3rd world countries.
- 17:51:17 [BrianFreud]
- you hike the really big ones?
- 17:51:40 [ajh]
- hike, ice climb, technical freeclimb, aid climb, ski, etc.
- 17:51:56 [BrianFreud]
- always tended to stay with the smaller ones myself - Killington's probally the tallest I climbed
- 17:52:07 [ajh]
- Mostly under 10K though, but that's been just because that's where I've been.
- 17:56:28 [ajh]
- Oh if there's existing album art in a directory will this embed it?
- 17:56:37 [BrianFreud]
- into the files?
- 17:56:41 [ajh]
- yeah
- 17:56:46 [ajh]
- if embed is checked
- 17:57:03 [BrianG]
- not that i've noticed
- 17:57:04 [BrianFreud]
- yeah - if you set it right, it'll embed if not already there, and also save to file in dir
- 17:57:15 [BrianG]
- are you talking about picard?
- 17:57:20 [ajh]
- yeah I checked both, just doing a no-tags run to fix art.
- 17:57:20 [BrianFreud]
- yes
- 17:57:30 [BrianFreud]
- wait
- 17:57:37 [BrianFreud]
- so you're running no tags, but you want to embed?
- 17:57:46 [BrianFreud]
- remember, the embedded art IS a tag...
- 17:57:51 [ajh]
- I've got embed checked.
- 17:58:08 [BrianFreud]
- right, but you turned off one level higher than embed
- 17:58:10 [ajh]
- I don't want it messing up tags I don't have time to check each of 4000 of them.
- 17:58:22 [ajh]
- OK I'll have to run something else to embed after then I guess.
- 17:58:28 [ajh]
- no biggie, good to know.
- 17:58:52 [BrianFreud]
- it should work, if you turn off removing existing tags, turn on tagging, and turn on embed
- 17:59:00 [BrianFreud]
- may still have some other tags get written tho
- 17:59:07 [ajh]
- yeah, there are a lot.
- 17:59:34 [yllona]
- yllona has quit
- 17:59:47 [BrianFreud]

- 18:02:13 [ajh]
- is submitting working again more reliably? Got a crapload of them to do.
- 18:03:09 [ajh]

- 20:28:17 [Muz]
- Where is John Connor?
- 20:32:18 [Kerensky97]
- I think the terminator got him
- 20:41:35 [cooperaa_]
- how's it going folks?
- 20:42:28 [cooperaa_]
- nvm - back to starcraft ;)
- 20:44:14 [BrianG]
- this happen to anyone else? http://www.gurtler.net/picardtitlesasalbums.png
- 20:44:24 [ruaok]
- * ruaok makes the L gesture on the forehead towards cooperaa_
- 20:44:31 [cooperaa_]
- :)
- 20:44:44 [cooperaa_]
- dude, it's one of those things you have to do before you die I'm sure :)

- ruaok: I brought up weighted voting on the mailing list the other day... I don't suppose you saw it?
- 20:46:17 [ruaok]
- I haven't caught up on that yet. real life has interfered in the last couple of days. I'll catch up over the weekend.
- 20:46:46 [ruaok]
- * ruaok is showing his burning man art project at a local bike art show
- 20:46:49 [cooperaa_]
- okay, no worries was just curious... I think it's an idea that we should seriously consider
- 20:47:01 [cooperaa_]
- oh neat!
- 20:47:40 [Muz]
- Weighted voting sounds familiar
- 20:47:50 [cooperaa_]
- ya someone made up a wiki page
- 20:47:51 [Muz]
- Much like something I may have said in a sleep deprived state several weeks ago
- 20:47:53 [Muz]
- :O
- 20:47:59 [Muz]
- * Muz would grep logs, but can't be fucked :)
- 20:48:11 [cooperaa_]
- I think it'd be awesome
- 20:48:20 [Muz]
- It'd help
- 20:48:29 [cooperaa_]
- based of edits/votes/activity/length of membership,e tc
- 20:48:30 [Rondom]
- Rondom has quit
- 20:48:34 [Muz]
- Precisely
- 20:48:40 [Muz]
- That's what triggered the idea forme
- 20:48:59 [cooperaa_]
- we could implement quasi-AutoEditor-ness using it
- 20:49:18 [cooperaa_]
- edits could pass after receiving a certain "weight" of votes in either the yes or no direction
- 20:49:42 [cooperaa_]
- this would protect data from being deleted as a new group of users couldn't rally enough weight to pass the removal edits
- 21:03:36 [Muz]
- * Muz likes audio editing across 3 monitors
- 21:05:39 [BrianFreud]
- BrianG: Looks like somewhere in transmission the datafeed got screwed - it still happen if you try to refresh those release?
- 21:06:50 [BrianG]
- i refreshed them before taking the screenshot
- 21:06:53 [BrianG]
- same thing
- 21:07:09 [BrianFreud]
- hmmm, same thing if you switch to the uk mirror?
- 21:07:17 [BrianFreud]
- cooperaa_: I like the idea. Maybe, also, if there were some way to increase/decrease certain classes of releases per editor? (Japanese, Soundtracks, Classical, etc - those that are somewhat more complex and detailed?)
- 21:07:37 [BrianFreud]
- power to edit those special classes, I mean

- murdos has quit
- 21:08:01 [dale2]

- 21:08:15 [cooperaa_]
- BrianFreud: I think we could make it very complex and have an editor's weight change based on which artist they are editing
- 21:08:22 [BrianG]
- yes
- 21:08:31 [BrianG]
- uk.mb.org?
- 21:08:33 [cooperaa_]
- if it's someone they've edited often
- 21:09:12 [BrianG]
- that can't be right :)
- 21:10:26 [BrianG]
- BrianFreud: yes. it's wanting to look up the album G; a; s; f; a; c; e
- 21:11:34 [BrianFreud]
- Well, take bootlegs, for example. Not to brag, but I have become somewhat expert on the LBS and LiveTrackStyle proposals. But if we switch to classical, I'm currently clueless. It starts to smack a little of "genres", but some way to mark an add as "what type of release is this?" (bootleg, regular, classical, japanese, etc) - so not editing power per artist, but per release category "grouping"
- 21:11:56 [BrianFreud]
- then you could subscribe to all "classical" releases, so none can slip through, etc
- 21:13:22 [BrianFreud]
- BrianG: try this - something I've found works when picard gets locked up like that... move one track back to the left side, open the details view on it, switch to the advanced tags tab, and delete all the MB tags. Then try doing a auto-lookup, and see if the release loads correctly
