yeah, i wasn't sure about the arrow either. that's why i wanted to see the old one.
00:23:28 [brianfreud]
I like the basic idea, but the palatte is way too dark, and the mini-arrow version isn't at all clear about what it is.
00:24:46 [chovy_]
i thought the "MB" was too dominant, coulnd't see the brain behind it very well.
00:24:56 [brianfreud]
ruaok: this line at the BBC site made me laugh - I had to read it twice to get what they meant :D "The site has been developed against the principles of linked open data and RESTful architecture where the creation of persistent URLs is a primary objective."

02:48:18 [nikki]
neither are mine
03:25:41 [adamgolding]
how do i format text for the parser so that composer names get in?
03:25:45 [adamgolding]
as track artists

solerant-dc has quit
03:49:58 [Jormangeud]

04:22:08 [navap]
adamgolding: "Foo - Bar" in the track parser should work well to split the text into the Title and Artist fields. If the two are mixed up you can use the Swap titles button.
04:26:10 [adamgolding]
what about on separate lines?
04:26:23 [adamgolding]
i'm thinking of the option to tell it that track names start witha number
04:26:39 [adamgolding]
apparently it looks for otehr info on un-numbered lines but i've never seen it succeed
04:26:40 [navap]
As far as I know, the TP works on a line by linue basis.
04:27:04 [adamgolding]
there is a checkbox to tell it to look for "EXtratitleinformation" on the unnumbered lines
04:27:20 [navap]
If you copy from Discogs then you can enable the 'start with number' option so that it will ignore all the ARs that they have in the tracklist.
04:28:19 [navap]
I don't know where you're seeing the checkbox for EtraTitleInformation.
04:28:26 [adamgolding]
the popup for that option claims it will actively take info from the other lines
04:28:31 [adamgolding]
the same option you mean, in the tooltip
04:28:42 [navap]
Ah, okay.
04:29:03 [navap]
I don't know what syntax the TP looks for in that case.
04:29:25 [navap]
"Featuring - Cathy Battistessa" on a second line seems to work.
04:29:56 [adamgolding]
ok, i'll idle to see if anyone can chime in with the dark secrets ;?
04:30:02 [navap]
Though if you want to set the artist, then you're not worrying about any of this stuff...
04:30:29 [adamgolding]
well i'd like to learn the full capabilities of the parser :p
04:31:11 [adamgolding]
i do a lot of classica editing so maybe it can help me :p
04:31:13 [navap]
Perhaps brianfreud can help you there.
04:31:42 [brianfreud]
what's the Q?
04:32:16 [adamgolding]
brianfreud i don't understand how the trackparser looks for 'extratitleinformation' when you enable 'track names start with a number'
04:33:33 [brianfreud]
ah... I don't recall very well how the current one does it; iirc, it just assumes any lines without initial numbers are part of the previous line
04:35:00 [adamgolding]
how much can it extract-just titles, times, and track artists? or more?
04:35:16 [brianfreud]
just those 3
04:35:29 [brianfreud]
it's pretty basic code :)
04:35:56 [adamgolding]
ok, what sorts of separators does it look for?
04:36:56 [brianfreud]
I honestly can't recall; I spent most of my time writing a better one :P
04:37:06 [brianfreud]
but that was a good 6 months ago or so
04:38:04 [adamgolding]
most of what time? lol
04:38:07 [adamgolding]
you eman, instead of using it?
04:38:17 [brianfreud]
yes
04:38:38 [adamgolding]
:p
04:39:02 [adamgolding]
ok, i have the power to use its powers now, lol
04:50:12 [adamgolding]
brianfreud i can't get it to parse the trackartist
04:50:18 [adamgolding]
this is on a single-artist release
04:50:30 [adamgolding]
with a line like:
04:50:36 [adamgolding]
Anonymous Chevalier, mult estes guariz 6:49
04:50:46 [adamgolding]
it just ignores the artist altogether
04:50:50 [brianfreud]
it can't parse track artists unless it thinks the release is VA; you have to first turn on the "edit all track artists" option.
04:53:05 [adamgolding]
all i see is the "show track artists" option
04:53:13 [adamgolding]
which is on
04:53:47 [brianfreud]
yep
04:53:57 [brianfreud]
it should be able to parse TAs then
04:54:11 [brianfreud]
try Anonymous - Chevalier, mult estes guariz 6:49
04:55:15 [adamgolding]
no dice, the track artist stays as the release artist
04:55:57 [adamgolding]
oh geez, this appears to be because i have to click on each little button but the track artists to 'unlock' them?
04:56:01 [adamgolding]
it works if i o that
04:56:05 [adamgolding]
but there must be an easier way?
04:57:20 [nikki]
nope
04:57:31 [brianfreud]
not yet :)

i have an album i'm trying to tag with picard, but it can't seem to find it. I've found it on the musicbrainz site, and am trying to feed it the info it needs to tag correctly. Any pointers? I've tried adding ASIN and discid to one of the tracks but still no go.
13:35:18 [outsidecontext]
grim: start the search from inside picard
13:35:40 [grim]
outsidecontext: i did that, it just opened the broswer and that was about it...
13:35:47 [outsidecontext]
once you've found the album there will be a green "tagger" button on the website, this will load it into picard
13:36:06 [grim]
not sure if this matters, but i'm on linux and the browser was midori... i can change it to firefox if that'll help
13:36:15 [grim]
ah, is that what that is... cool :)
13:36:17 [outsidecontext]
the tagger button only apears if you opened the musicbrainz website via picard
13:36:29 [outsidecontext]
should work with every browser
13:36:58 [grim]
sweet, thanks :)
13:37:06 [outsidecontext]
you're welcome
13:38:49 [grim]
nice, thats a good trick (the webserver running on localhost), i'll have to keep that in mind when i have dev servers running on port 8000 :)
13:39:15 [outsidecontext]
:) picard searches for an open port starting on 8000
13:39:50 [grim]
ah cool
13:40:07 [Muz]
If you know the port Picard is running on, you can make the site manually display those tagger buttons by appending the GET variable of tport=8080 or whatever port it's on.
13:40:29 [Muz]
?tport=8080 if you've not got any other GET variables present otherwise use &tport=8080
13:41:07 [grim]

there's already something like that for me, is it only an autoeditor thing? :/
16:40:56 [jesus2099]
Oh yes probably because I missed this so mucha much
16:41:37 [jesus2099]
Is it exactly the same thing?
16:42:13 [nikki]
not quite, they're radio buttons at the top of the page, rather than buttons at the bottom
16:42:17 [nikki]
but they do the same thing
16:45:56 [jesus2099]
Oh I put them both on top and bottom. And I put buttons instead of radio (as I did at first time) because if you change some votes later, the radio buttons aren't coherent anymores
16:46:45 [nikki]
it works for me, although I would suggest only putting them there when there are some open edits on the page :)
16:48:10 [nikki]
buttons make more sense to me too
16:48:26 [jesus2099]
Good idea (however there is no error if you click and there no possible vote) but good idea!

interesting (and unfortunate) that BY-NC-SA is the most popular creative commons license.
18:30:59 [aCiD2]

djc: in general the publisher or label may have a note about that in the catalogue
19:21:39 [djc]
alsao, how do I relate a release to a freedb id?
19:21:56 [nikki]
you don't
19:22:42 [nikki]
you can only add mb's type of disc id, and freedb doesn't have enough information to be able to create them
19:23:09 [djc]
hmm, ok
19:23:29 [djc]
I thought I'd seen some release related to freedb somehow
19:23:46 [djc]
so is there some list of label sites where you might find releases?
19:24:30 [nikki]
we can generate freedb's ids from ours, just not the other way round, so any disc ids we have list the equivalent freedb id
19:25:03 [nikki]
like on http://musicbrainz.org/show/cdtoc/?cdtocid=319237
19:25:28 [djc]
ah, so it's like a hash?
19:25:47 [nikki]
yeah
19:28:25 [djc]
well, I don't know how to get any useful results from the label sites :(
19:28:39 [djc]
would a freedb record generally be enough to prove a release?
19:29:18 [warp]
djc: not really. but usually it isn't too hard to find a mention of it somewhere else on the web.
19:29:57 [djc]
warp: any suggestions on how to search?
19:30:18 [warp]
djc: what are you searching for?
19:31:20 [djc]
http://musicbrainz.org/show/release/?releaseid=873663
19:32:03 [djc]
http://musicbrainz.org/mod/search/results.html?object_type=album&orderby=desc&object_id=873663
19:33:12 [djc]
it would seem like an australian/british version with the hidden track separate
19:33:28 [nikki]
where did you get it from?
19:33:50 [djc]
btjunkie, I think
19:33:54 [navap]
Oh wow, that is spooky. I just saw the edit note emails for that very release.
19:34:07 [navap]
djc: Are you radicalapex?
19:34:13 [djc]
navap: I'm dochtman
19:34:38 [navap]
Oh, I didn't see that those two edits were by two people :/
19:35:08 [navap]
I wouldn't trust a torrent tracklist if that's your only source.
19:35:49 [djc]
well, from the looks of it it's just the british/australian version, with the hidden track
19:37:07 [navap]
Perhaps, but the british/australian release would have Happy Ending and Over My Shoulder in one track.
19:37:11 [navap]
http://musicbrainz.org/release/336e64b6-1e06-413f-ba81-0938163a4ed0.html
19:38:30 [djc]
navap: and freedb doesn't count as a source?
19:38:45 [nikki]
anyone can add anything to freedb
19:38:49 [navap]
I've seen fake releases added where the submitter got the release from a torrent and the hidden track was a separate track, making a different tracklist. Generally I don't think those should be added.
19:39:05 [nikki]
you can download some mp3s, burn a cd and add it to freedb, so it's not proof of a real release
19:40:17 [djc]
ok, so I should cancel my addition and get a better version?
19:40:57 [navap]
I'm not sure what you mean by better version, but yeah I would cancel the edit.

oh, that's a nice idea
20:00:27 [luks]
yeah, the icon should be really simple
20:01:18 [nikki]
and I don't think it needs the text at all, it's an icon, not a logo... if the icon is so unclear that it needs text to identify it, something's wrong :)
20:01:53 [x-pilot]
nikki: glossy! lol :)
20:01:57 [luks]

also already fixed in svn (about a half an hour ago)

you could fix the link_type.gid manually

and then continue with indexes

could you help me on that? analogous to the above sql?

jesus2099: the third param is just whether you want the onclick to capture the event or not (aka, pass it on downwards to other EventTargets nested lower in the DOM nodetree)
21:40:06 [nikki]
I haven't got a clue how to do that, nor whether it would work at all

What did "true" mean at that place ?
21:40:56 [jesus2099]
passthrough?
21:41:11 [brianfreud]
catch the event, then pass it to other event listeners nested lower in the DOM
21:41:38 [jesus2099]
Anyway it works with false thanks very much .. Do you use Firefox? Do you have Greasemonkey ?
21:41:45 [brianfreud]
yes and yes
21:42:14 [brianfreud]
say you had a select with some options in it. you add a click event listener to the select, now you add another to one of the options. If you use true in the select, the option will also get the click event. False, it won't.
